Classes

ABC – Absolute Beginner’s Class.  This class will be slower paced and is suitable for anyone who has not practiced yoga before or anyone who is having some physical problems or old injuries that are of concern.  It is, however, a good class for any yoga student in that we will carefully attend to the Principles of Alignment and make sure that each student has a good understanding of these to prevent injury and to facilitate healing.  Stamina, strength and flexibility will be emphasized, and as in all Anusara classes, we will set a foundation to open to a more expanded reality of our own potential.

Mixed Level  - Open to all students who have some background in yoga.  It is preferable that students have experienced Anusara style classes previously and have a basic understanding of the Principles of Alignment:  1) Setting the foundation, 2) Muscular Energy,  3) Inner Spiral,  4)  Outer Spiral, and  5)  Organic Energy.  Mixed level classes will build on these principles as well as refine them with additional alignment principles.  Emphasis on cultivating a higher purpose to the asanas – “aligning with the divine” –  will be an integral part of the classes.

Mixed Level classes run for an hour or an hour and a half and will include all of the above elements plus working a little deeper in a particular pose or physical way (i.e., hip opening, arm balances, back-bending, etc) or may include restorative poses, or may include additional breathing exercises (pranayama), or mantra and meditation. We highly encourage you to cultivate “Adhikara” – studentship.  This means that the more you commit to the practice and maintain consistency, the more you will benefit from your efforts.  The classes will definitely build on a body of knowledge.

Private Sessions - Two levels of private sessions are available. The first , Guided Practice, is for any student (or several students) who cannot attend the regular classes.  Jenni will arrange a time and practice with you as well as coach you.  This will allow for the student to get a good yoga work-out, but also encouragement and pointers.  The second, is a full private session which means Jenni will maintain the “seat of the teacher” for the duration and closely observe and adjust you in all postures plus work with any limitations and injuries that you may have.

Cost - We encourage students to sign up for a series (e.g., Mondays).  For six classes the cost is $30.  For twelve classes (for those who wish to attend two classes per week) the cost is $54.
Drop-in rate is $7.00 per class.  If you sign up for a series, but miss a class, it can be made up at another time during the week.   Cost for a Guided Practice is $10 for an hour class.  Cost for a Full Private class is $25 and may last for two hours.  Special classes or workshops may be priced as a package — for example, July’s Summer Extravaganza is seven mornings of yoga for $35.  It promises to be a fantastic opportunity for deepening your relationship with yoga.

Anusara classes begin with an invocation in Sanskrit which sets our intention for the practice.  The yoga postures or asanas, are not merely exercise, but are designed to open us to something greater, to a supreme reality or current of energy that pulses through the entire universe.  The invocation is:

Om

Namah Shivaya Gurave

Satchidananda Murtaye

Nishprapanchaya Shantaya

Niramlambaya Tejase

I honor the essence of Being, the Auspicious One,

the luminous Teacher within and without,

Who assumes the forms of Truth,

Consciousness, and Bliss,

Is never absent, full of peace,

Ultimately free and sparkles with a divine luster.
